Sunseeker

Sunseeker International is a British builder of luxury motor yachts. The company was founded by Robert Braithwaite in 1969. Initially named Poole Power Boats, the company began by importing and distributing boats before commencing its own manufacturing operations. The first models were based on designs from the American company, Owens Commandeer. Over time, Sunseeker transitioned to designing and building its own yachts.

From the 1970s through the 1990s, Sunseeker developed a range of performance motoryachts, focusing on speed and design. Key models during this period included the Sovereign 17 and 20, and later the Portofino and Predator lines. The company expanded its facilities in Poole, Dorset, to accommodate increased production.

In the 2000s, Sunseeker continued to expand its model range, introducing larger yachts and exploring different yacht types, including flybridge models and superyachts. This period saw the introduction of models like the larger Manhattan and Predator yachts, as well as the initial steps into the superyacht segment with the 105 Yacht.

Sunseeker has historically focused on the design and manufacture of planing hull motor yachts. Their production processes combine traditional boat building techniques with more modern manufacturing methods, including the use of composite materials. The company operates multiple production facilities in Poole, Dorset, which house design, engineering, and manufacturing operations.

In 2013, a majority stake in Sunseeker International was acquired by Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate. This acquisition led to further investment in the company's research and development, as well as facility upgrades. Following this, the company maintained its headquarters and primary production in Poole, UK, and continued to develop new models across its range.

Sunseeker's current production focuses on various segments including performance cruisers, flybridge yachts, and superyachts. The company employs in-house design and engineering teams, and its yachts are distributed globally through a network of dealers. Sunseeker has been involved in several collaborations, including partnerships for interior design and propulsion systems, though specific long-term design partners are not publicly emphasized as external naval architects often are by other builders. The company consistently updates its model lines, incorporating new technologies and design trends while retaining an established brand identity.
