Sterling Yachts built large custom motor yachts in composite during the 1980s, an era when American yards were competing directly with European builders on volume and finish. The yard focused on yachts in the 40 metre class, engineered for extended cruising with substantial fuel capacity.
Sterling collaborated with prominent designers of the period, including Jon Bannenberg for exterior styling and Pininfarina for interior detailing. Its yachts are recognised today as capable, well-built classics with distinctive period design.
