Couach Yachts

Couach Yachts is a French shipyard with a history spanning over a century. The company was founded by Albert Couach in 1897. Initially, Couach focused on wooden fishing boats and pilot boats for the local Arcachon Bay region in France. Over the decades, the shipyard evolved, diversifying its production to include various types of vessels. Albert Couach's son, Gaston Couach, developed the first inboard engines in France in 1902, which were then used to power their boats.

In the mid-20th century, Couach began to transition towards yacht production. The shipyard gained recognition for its patrol boats and professional vessels, building a reputation for robust construction. This experience was later applied to their yacht division. By the 1970s, Couach was producing custom motor yachts, and they were among the early adopters of composite materials, including fiberglass, for yacht construction, applying techniques developed for professional vessels.

Couach has traditionally maintained its production facilities in Gujan-Mestras, on the Arcachon Bay. The shipyard emphasizes in-house control over various stages of construction, including hull lamination, joinery, and outfitting. Their yachts are often characterized by their semi-displacement or planing hull designs, intended to offer performance and seaworthiness. Over the years, Couach has produced a range of motor yachts, from flybridge models to larger superyachts. The company has experienced changes in ownership throughout its history, but it has generally maintained its focus on custom and semi-custom yacht building. In recent years, Couach has also explored naval and professional vessel markets concurrently with its yacht building operations.
