Blount Marine

Blount Marine Corporation was founded by Luther H. Blount in 1949 in Warren, Rhode Island. The shipyard initially focused on constructing a variety of commercial and military vessels, including ferries, tugboats, and research vessels. Over its history, Blount Marine gained recognition for its innovative designs and construction methods, particularly in the development of shallow-draft vessels and catamaran ferries. The shipyard has delivered more than 350 vessels of various types. A notable aspect of the company's operations was its ability to produce custom-designed ships to meet specific client requirements. While primarily known for its work in the commercial sector, Blount Marine has also built yachts, applying its engineering and construction expertise to recreational vessels. The company's operations have been centered in Warren, Rhode Island, throughout its history. Luther H. Blount, the founder, was also a prolific designer, and many vessels built at the shipyard were designed in-house. Blount Marine closed its operations in 2021 after more than seven decades of shipbuilding.
